(11/11/2014 –New Orleans, LA) Grammy™ award-winning drumming superstar, author and instructional DVD creator Stanton Moore (Galactic) has announced legendary New Orleans bassist George Porter, Jr. ofThe Meters will special guest at his second annual “Spirit of New Orleans” Drum Camp, December 5th – 7th at the historic Old U.S. Mint in the heart of New Orleans’ legendary French Quarter. Few bass players in the history of modern New Orleans music are as influential as George Porter, Jr. In addition to his legendary work with The Meters, Porter has also worked with such diverse artists as Paul McCartney, Jimmy Buffet, David Byrne, Patti LaBelle, Robbie Robertson, Tori Amos and Taj Mahal among many others.

Produced by MUSO Entertainment, this exclusive 3-day music camp celebrates the legacy and rich musical tradition that is uniquely New Orleans’. From Mardi Gras Indian -- to the evolution of jazz and funk -- students will enjoy three days of hands-on drumming, live performances, a private tour of the Old U.S. Mint’s “New Orleans Jazz” exhibit and much more. The exclusive “Spirit of New Orleans” Drum Camp will offer a limited number of students the chance to play with and learn from Stanton Moore in an ultra-intensive classroom setting. Each student will play on an individual practice drum kit allowing for an incredibly intense, educational experience that guarantees results.

SONO/NOLA 2014 will feature a master class/workshop on Sunday, December 7th. In this master class, students will get a chance to hear, ask questions of and actually play with George Porter Jr. There will be aFinale Concert at The Old U.S. Mint with Porter Jr., Moore and additional special guests where students will get to sit in with one of the funkiest bass players in the world in front of a live audience. The camp will also offer private lessons from acclaimed New Orleans drummer/educator Johnny Vidacovich (Astral Project/Bobby McFerrin. In addition, all SONO camp packages also include discounted admission to evening performances including: Anders Osborne with special guest Stanton Moore at Tipitinas’s on Friday, December 5th; The Stanton Moore Piano Trio, Saturday, December 6th at Café Istanbul. and a Sunday, December 7th.

Located at 400 Esplanade Ave, The Old U.S. Mint is the only building in America to have served both as a United States and a Confederate Mint. Guests of Stanton Moore’s “Spirit of New Orleans” (SONO) Drum Camp will be given an exclusive tour of this historic building’s “New Orleans Jazz” exhibit featuring sheet music and instruments including Louis Armstrong’s first coronet and items from New Orleans’ jazz drumming legend Baby Dodds among other music memorabilia chronicling the history of Jazz from its humble beginnings on the streets of New Orleans. The new photography gallery portrays a new generation of New Orleans performers.

A lifelong resident of New Orleans, Stanton Moore is a highly respected drummer and authority on New Orleans’ musical history who has toured the world as a performer and educator, garnering accolades for his superb drumming skills, clinics and for his wildly popular “Groove Alchemy” book and DVD.
