Oded Kafri: Insane D&B/Jungle/HipHop/R&B Drumming

Oded has started playing the drums at the age of ten, studied with the best teachers in Israel and by the age of 14, already won a national talent contest. Oded has devoted his teenage years to studying Jazz, African and classical percussion both in Tel Aviv and Paris.

By the age of 21 he already became one of the most sought after drummers in Israel, playing and recording regularly with the top rank artists. His playing style is characterized by a thorough dedication on time-keeping and swing, a great dynamic spectrum and an ability to play several styles of music very sensitively.

In 2000, Oded has formed The Groove Redemption, a funk and soul group which plays unique interpretations of classic covers alongside original material. The group has become extremely popular and is still playing regularly in Israel.

During the years Oded has played with various Israeli artists such Shalom Hanoch, Idan Raichel, Rita, Riki Gal, Eti Ankri, Avishy Choen, Eli Dejibri and David D’Or as well as in prime time TV shows (Strictly come dancing, Lo Nafsik Lashir, Dancing With the Stars) and musicals (Chicago, Guys & Dolls).

In 2007, after a year of travelling through Africa, Oded has released Rhythm for Dancing Lessons, a vibrant percussion based album, played by Israeli and African musicians, which provides a diverse‘world music’ soundtrack for dance teachers and their students.

In late 2009 he has released the first EP of The Drumahcine Project, Oded’s latest project which plays a mix that references electro, house, reggae, drum n’ bass, and disco with ethnic touches. The
project’s live shows host different guests such as dancers, beat boxer, bagpipe player, trombone player etc and are always a surprise for the audience and the artists.

Shortly after releasing the EP, Oded has moved to London where he played with the Ian Ritchie Quartet, Kevin Mark Trail, Koby Israelite Band and was supporting DJ Shantel and Balkan Beat Box.
