Welcome to Hit Like A Girl 2013
Last year you, the entrants and fans of Hit Like A Girl 2012, created a great event. With 360 entrants from 42 countries and nearly 400,000 votes cast it was a true celebration of female drumming.
We're writing to give you an early heads up about this year's event and encourage you to share this info with friends and interested drummers. Last year there were three winners: De'Arcus Curry of the US, Agnieszka Matuszczak of Poland, Karmi Santiago of The Phillipines. But I think you were all winners because the goal was to support and spotlight female drummers around the world and that goal was accomplished.
Here's the schedule for 2013
Kickoff: The contest will be announced this Thursday at 12:00 P.M. at the NAMM International Expo Music show in Anaheim, California. (DRUM! Booth 3541) David Levine of TRX Cymbals, Mindy Seegal Abovitz of Tom Tom and Phil Hood of DRUM! will make the announcement.
Once again entrants will upload a three-minute drumming video and fill out an entry form to be eligible for the contest.
February 1: Entry begins at www.hitlikeagirlcontest.com
February 15th: Voting opens
March 15th: Entry closes
March 31st: Public voting closes. Finalists announced
April 9th: Celebrity judges pick the winners to be announced in streamed global event on Drumchannel.com.
Under 18 OK
In order to further support and spotlight female drummers of all ages we have established an under 18 category. So this year there will be six winners: three in the under 18 and three in the 18 and over category.
All six top finishers will receive either an electronic or acoustic drum set, along with other prizes.
We have the greatest group of judges this year, a group with outstanding drumming credentials and infectious enthusiasm for promoting female drummers. They include
Gina Schock (The Go-Go’s)
Elaine Bradley (Neon Trees)
Jess Bowen (The Summer Set)
Kim Thompson (Wallace Roney, Mike Stern)
Shauney "Baby" Recke (Pussy Cat Dolls, Will.I.Am)
