Addition of 302 Double Flange Hoops and 30-Degree Bearing Edges Deliver Better Sustain,
Easier Tuning and Greater Projection
(March 16, 2016 – Oxnard, CA) The Gretsch Renown Series has been updated for 2016 to include Gretsch’s player-friendly,“302” hoops. Borrowed from the iconic Brooklyn and Broadkaster series drums, these hoops are lighter in weight and less rigid than die cast hoops -- allowing the drum to better “breathe” and achieve maximum resonance. Other updates include a BD Mounted Tom Holder system, newly redesigned 30° bearing edges, and two new classic Gretsch lacquer finish options. The newly-updated Gretsch Renown delivers a contemporary punch, combined with some of Gretsch’s most renowned features, tooffer a versatile kit that’s at home in the studio and on stage.
“To update the Renown Series we changed the spec of the bearing edges using a 1980's USA factory original tom as a reference,”said Gretsch brand manager Mike Nieland. “This kit has better sustain, easier tuning, and it carries on the rich sonic legacy of legendary Gretsch drum sets.”
Renown Series bass drums include matching 10-ply maple wood hoops, die-cast claw hooks and heavy-duty telescopic spurs, all fitted with the Classic Gretsch “T” Wing nut. Also added is Gretsch’s heavy-duty, ball-and-socket tom mount, which alleviates the need for tom stands.
The 2016 Renown comes in a variety of popular configurations and finishes that include Satin Tobacco Burst and Piano Black Gloss Lacquer. Individual toms, snare drums and bass drums are also available, and all are outfitted with Remo USA heads.
The 2016 Renown Series 5-piece (10”, 12”, 16”, 22”, 5x14”) priced at $1499.00 MAP.
